About this artwork
This picture introduces the second part of Dante's "Divine Comedy" -- Purgatorio (Purgation) -- and refers to the intermediate realm between hell and the coming paradise. A painterly self (analogous to the lyrical self) forms from the orange of the lower part of the picture to an earth-related, fertile olive green.
Siegfried Bausch, a versatile artist, moves between painting and sculpture, his roots lie in mathematics and civil engineering. Using acrylic paints, he uses gestural abstraction and geometric precision, which create an effective contrast. With the help of his art, he expresses the contradictions between idealized social ideas and experienced reality. His abstract works encourage the viewer to explore personally and reflect emotionally.
