About this artwork
Vandalized is a series in which I intervene in images inspired by advertising graphics and pop art from the 1950s and 1960s, blending them with the language of graffiti and contemporary consumerism. I'm interested in taking these icons—glamorous figures, romantic scenes, everyday products—and visually "dirtying" them with tags, prices, barcodes, and symbols of modern-day capitalism.
With this series, I seek to generate a clash between two worlds:… the clean and seductive aesthetic of consumption and the rawness of street art. In doing so, I question how beauty ideals, gender stereotypes, and desire are constructed in a society that commodifies everything. The graffiti in my works is not just decoration: it's a form of reappropriation, a way to break with artifice and show what lies behind that perfect image.
Vandalized is, at its core, an ironic and colorful critique of marketing culture, but also a visual game where the classic and the urban, the neat and the vandalized coexist.
