About this artwork
In this work, I wanted to capture the drama and enigma of life, combining symbolism and emotional power. The sphinx represents the mystery everyone faces, while the solitary figure walks the path of life without awareness (know thyself and you will know the Gods and the universe). The intense colors and contrasts accentuate the tension between destiny and choice, bringing a profound and reflective energy to the viewer. An invitation to confront the… unknown. I used the three primary colors (red, blue, and yellow) and the three secondary colors (purple, green, and orange) to express Sophocles' dramatic tragedy.
Silvio Ricci is a self-taught painter who developed his skills through occasional courses and a deep personal study of techniques from the Renaissance to Hyperrealism. He uses a wide range of media, from pencil to watercolor, and his eclectic style adapts to his work, alternating between realism, expressionism, and abstraction. Ricci explores themes ranging from landscape to literary and religious symbolism, conveying emotions that invite philosophical reflection and question the limits of freedom and inspiration.
