About this artwork
This is an abstract, impressionistic oil painting composed of layered greens that suggest the faint emergence of a mountain landscape. The mountain form is not clearly defined; instead, it shifts between appearing and dissolving.
Sparse areas of white space flow through the composition like drifting mist, at once revealing and concealing the space within the painting.
Rather than depicting a specific landscape, the work uses “rising clouds” as… a metaphor for inner states of perception. The mountain always exists; whether it can be seen depends on the viewer’s inner clarity. When the mind is calm, the mist disperses and the mountain becomes visible. When thoughts are unsettled, the fog returns and the mountain fades from sight.
The mountain is never far away—it is shaped by the state of the mind that observes it.
