About this artwork
Rythmes Croisés is part of Sophie Dumont's research into interior architectures and geometric balances.
The composition relies on an interplay of curved shapes and more angular structures, creating a fluid yet structured flow of the eye. The colored masses interact and balance each other, generating a visual dynamic that is both stable and vibrant.
Created with oil on canvas, the work is constructed through successive layers, revealing a rich… and textured surface. The nuances of ochre, burnt earth, beige, and deep black bring warmth and depth, while reinforcing the overall architectural presence.
At the border between abstraction and suggestion, this painting evokes an interior space where forms interact in a subtle balance between tension and harmony.
« To sublimate, to appropriate the subject, to keep only the essential. »
Sophie Dumont is a contemporary French painter born in Paris in 1964. She currently lives and works in Normandy. Her work, primarily oil on canvas, explores the memory of places through abstract landscapes, stylized libraries, and studio interiors. Through the layering of numerous paints and subtle collages, she constructs structured compositions where matter, light, and color interact. Her work is distinguished by a balance between architecture and pictorial sensibility. Exhibiting for over twenty years in France and internationally, notably in Germany, Canada, Belgium, and Italy, Sophie Dumont's work is now featured in numerous private and museum collections.
