About this artwork
“Colorful Steps” grew out of my ongoing interest in the human figure in motion—not as a perfect body, but as a carrier of tension, rhythm, and unspoken emotion. By showing only fragments of the figures, especially their legs and shoes, I wanted to remove identity in the literal sense (no faces, no portraits) and let the viewer feel the situation instead of reading it like a narrative illustration.
The different colors of the garments and shoes hint… at individuality, but the figures are bound together in one shared movement, almost like a slow choreography. For me, these “steps” are not just about walking or dancing; they are about the small but decisive movements we make in relationships—approaching, withdrawing, hesitating, coming closer again. The space between forms, the overlaps, and the slight tensions in the angles are where the psychological story lives.
Srdjan Stanojkovic is a Serbian painter and sculptor whose self-directed practice spans drawing, oil and acrylic painting, and bas-relief, shaped by European exhibitions and daily studio immersion. His approach blends figurative abstraction with geometric, sculptural techniques—fragmenting the human body into rhythmic planes, layering painting with scraping, carving, and relief. His art radiates charged stillness, inviting viewers to feel the electric, unspoken tension and intimacy that lingers in the space between bodies.
