About this artwork
The work depicts a portrait of an elderly woman, executed with acrylic paint and India ink.
Inspired by the photographs of Thomas Ruf, who depicted young people, this work contrasts with his focus on lived experience. The face is only partially visible, shimmering from the deep black of the background and creating a mysterious aura. This interplay of light and shadow conveys both grace and a certain melancholy, intended to prompt reflection in the… viewer.
Stephan Hauswirth, born in Basel and trained at the HGK FHBB, works primarily with painting and objects. His works are characterized by a powerful blend of emotional depth and visual tension; he employs various techniques to create objects that are realistic yet distorted in scale. Through his work, he explores the fragility of human existence and invites the viewer to reflect on identity and their own role in a world saturated with images.
