About this artwork
I like to think of each of my works as a transcription of my emotions at a specific moment in my life. The abstract takes shape on its own. I am just the hand that helps translate it onto the canvas. The most important thing is what each person feels when looking at a painting. My goal is for the emotion to be personal to each viewer, for them to recognize themselves in the work. More than anything else, what do you feel when you look at this painting?… I am very interested in your impressions, so please share your thoughts with me. Give me your impressions.
Stéphane Vanhove uses ceramics, repoussé copper, and painting, drawing on a dual background in art and architecture in Lubumbashi and Mons. His practice combines textures, flat tints, collages, and paint projections, favoring broad knife work and spontaneous gestures. He seeks the immediate expression of emotion, inviting the viewer to feel and experience each work as a mirror of their own sensitivity, free from any conceptual explanation.
