Before the breath, there is silence. Before the light, there is weight. A woman, veiled in red, head bowed — suspended in that last moment of inwardness, still held by what came before. Alpha is the first letter, the first moment, the first threshold.… In neuroscience, it names a gently altered state of consciousness: the world of dreams, of children, of deep presence. This image lives there — in the space before words, before the world rushes in.
