About this artwork
A painting of the Baptistry in Pisa joining a previous work completed in 2003.
The Baptistry is one of a quartet of sights in the Piazza del Duomo (Piazza dei Miracoli), including the Monumental Cemetry, the Duomo itself and of course the more famous Leaning Tower (Campanile).
In my view the Baptistry, the largest in Italy., is by far the more complete architectural creation. The image here is taken looking upwards with the curved facade of… the Baptistry set against the bright sharp Mediterranean sun. The 3 Dimensional form is generated by the use of strong shadows
