About this artwork
Like any half decent lollipop most seascape paintings comprise either two horizontal layers, the sky and the sea, or three layers, the sky the sea and the land. Good examples of great 2 layer seascapes are famous English splurger JMW Turner's 'The Fighting Temeraire'; Russian hyper-realist Ivan Aivazovsky's 'The Ninth Wave'; and Hokusai's cartoon woodblock print 'The Great Wave Off Kanagawa'. For three layer masterpieces look no further than Monet's… bright and breezy 'La Terrace de Sainte Adresse' and compare it to German artist Caspar David Friedrich's gloomy borefest 'The Monk by the Sea.' 'Sea Threeways' metamorphoses from some deeply disturbed dark water at the top through some gentle, heart-monitor-type waves that your child could probably paint, into some sparkling shallow water inspired by a photograph of a swimming pool the artist took in Tunisia. So this is a seascape of three layers, with the sky and land nowhere to be seen. An unusual lollipop indeed.

Steve White, a painter based in the Netherlands, has extensively exhibited his works nationally, as well as in the United Kingdom. While he appreciates that art can stir emotions and have great meaning for people, he has a more practical approach to creation. For example, one of the tests he does for his own works is simple - he asks himself, "Would this look good over someone's sofa?". White's abstract realist compositions also combine elements of minimalism.
