About this artwork
In creating this artwork, my emotions poured onto the canvas, telling a tale of change and uncertainty, resembling shifting grounds. I used acrylics and pigments with touches of plaster for texture, combining abstract and impressionistic styles. This painting expresses life's unpredictability and beauty amid chaos. Its vibrant energy will bring a dynamic atmosphere to any space, inviting viewers to find their own meaning in its depth and layers.… "Deep Roots" has multiple layers of paint, copper pigments and plaster to create depth. I applied reductive markings and scrapings to reveal layers of paint and added texture to the work.
The painting is signed on the back and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The painting is coated twice with UV Archival Varnish to protect the painting and place felt pads on the back to protect the wall. The artwork is on wrapped canvas and all four sides are painted and ready to hang.
« The minimalistic nature of my abstracts along with a cube of color is my attempt to stimulate a primitive view of art through shape and color. »
Susan Handau, who has a BA in Art History, began her early work in the 1990s, she created textured layers of collaged watercolors. By strategic cuts from her large abstract watercolor paintings and reconstructing the parts into smaller compositions secured by thread, she created layered landscapes while highlighting built up texture. Handau later experimented with assemblage using wax and fibrous materials to build three-dimensional pieces out of a flat substrate. She currently works in acrylic, ink, and plaster. Handau is an Individual Artist Grant recipient from the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts; awarded a project grant in Fiscal Year 2023 for her works on demystifying aging. Her work was featured on Reno’s PBS “ARTEFFECTS” and has been picked up nationally on other PBS stations.
