About this artwork
The work represents the Gothic entrance known as Puerta de Santiago, one of the historic entrances to Miranda del Castañar. The stone steps, marked by moss and the wear of time, lead to a pointed arch that frames the door, a symbol of history, spirituality, and transit.
The loose, expressive brushstrokes capture the rough texture of the stone and the chromatic variations that range from wet green to gray and ochre, evoking the imprint of centuries… on medieval architecture. Beyond the architectural detail, the work conveys the symbolic power of a door: a place of passage, protection, and encounter between the human and the transcendent.
This painting was part of the exhibition "The Soul of Miranda," which brought together different urban landscapes of Miranda del Castañar with the aim of rescuing the memory and identity of the town through its architectural heritage.
