About this artwork
In this painting, I wanted to capture the innocence and quiet curiosity of a kitten through an intimate close-up composition. I used acrylic to build depth, shadow, and atmosphere, creating a soft muted background that allows the subject to emerge gently from the surface. Over this, I worked with watercolour pencils to create the delicate textures of the fur, using fine layered strokes to bring warmth, softness, and realism to the piece.
The large… reflective eyes and tiny details, such as the whiskers and visible tongue, were important to me because they give the kitten personality and emotional presence. Rather than aiming for photographic realism, I wanted the painting to feel tender and expressive, balancing detail with softness.
I call this piece “mischief in miniature”, as the eyes became the emotional centre of the work and convey both vulnerability and wonder.
