About this artwork
The subject of the film is the Kuyalnitsky estuary near Odesa in the south of Ukraine. A unique body of water, the salinity exceeds the Dead Sea. From the bottom of the estuary they extract therapeutic mud. The picture shows an old boat, which is still used to extract the mud, which the boat is filled with. Svitlana Vol is a Ukrainian artist living in Germany whose paintings have been exhibited nationally. Through her distinctive figurative works, landscapes, and florals as being "psychological portraits". In her artistic practice, Vol fuses realism, impressionism, and expressionism in a style that she refers to as "polyphonism". Inspired by music, she primarily creates with oils on linen.
