Sybille Mellenthin lives and works in Mallorca. For more than 25 years, she has dedicated herself to painting almost daily.
Her paintings emerge from a vibrant inner dialogue. New motifs appear constantly: people, animals, landscapes, dream worlds, memories, and spiritual images. At the heart of it all is creation in all its diversity.
From this source emerged an exceptionally multifaceted body of work. Hardly any two paintings are alike. And yet, all the works possess a distinctive style. It is precisely this combination of diversity and recognizability that characterizes her art.
She describes many of her works as "heard images"—they reveal themselves during the painting process and find their own way. Once completed, they tell a story that goes beyond what is immediately apparent.
They open up a world of their own while remaining part of a larger whole: the visual world of Sybillum.
