About this artwork
As the sun goes down in the English countryside the colours deepen and become rich and jewel like. This mixed media painting is an imagined scene inspired by memories of places I have lived. The church on the hill stands out against the rich dark colours. The last rays of sun gives a glow to the sky. Deep blues and greens, dark reds and vibrant orange come together in this richly textured piece. Japanese handmade papers are used to create texture… along with decorative papers.
« I love my life as an artist, creating original paintings that I hope reflect the joy I have when working on them. I want to share color, light, and energy. »
Sylvia Paul is an artist based in the United Kingdom whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Japan, China, and Singapore. Her enduring love of the countryside is ever-present in her works, with landscapes inspired by her local area. In addition, Paul's floral still-lifes are a favorite theme of hers, as they provide "endless possibilities for bringing colors together". She creates using oils, acrylics, and collage on canvas and wood.
