About this artwork
In my painting "By the Blue Sea," a woman wearing a wide-brimmed hat and a light summer dress stands barefoot on the beach, gazing out at the deep blue sea. I deliberately chose a rear view to allow the viewer space for their own thoughts and emotions. I created the textured surface, especially in the dress and sand, using a palette knife technique to emphasize movement and the play of light.
The reduction to a few colors—the clear blue of the sky… and water, the bright white of the dress, the earthy tones of the skin and the beach—underscores the calm and clarity of this moment. The palette knife technique was used primarily to depict the dress, the sand, and the sea surface.
The scene radiates peace, lightness and perhaps even a little longing – a quiet moment by the water, all to yourself.
Tatiana Takush, born in St. Petersburg – a city with a long artistic tradition – is a trained painter and printmaker. She works primarily with oil, acrylic, and mixed media.
In her works, she tells stories of landscapes and people. She often uses fleeting snapshots as a starting point, which she reinterprets with depth, sensitivity, and passion. Her art invites the viewer on a dreamlike journey where emotions become visible – especially where words fall short.
