Pressed, Not Broken is a mixed-media portrait painted on the surface of an old iron — an object historically tied to domestic labor and silent expectations placed on women.
The heat, pressure, and weight implied by the object become symbols of emotional endurance: the societal demand to be “smooth,” compliant, pleasant, unwrinkled, unchanged.
Yet the face emerging from the metal refuses to disappear. Her gaze is steady, luminous, and alive. Bright… layered colors reveal a self that remains vivid beneath the pressure — not erased, not flattened.
This work speaks to resilience, identity, and the invisible labor of holding one’s spirit intact in the face of roles, norms, and silent demands.
