About this artwork
While living on Maui, this piece began as a moment of curiosity, experimenting with a new brush and following how the paint wanted to move. Without a plan, I allowed color to flow and blend, letting shapes emerge through feeling.
At one point, I stepped back and recognized the presence of a whale. In that instant, I knew exactly where the eye belonged, as if it had been there all along. What began as abstraction became a quiet unfolding of form.…
During my time on Maui, I was deeply moved by the whales, their seasonal return, their grace, and the experience of being in the water with them. This painting reflects those moments, with the whale emerging from a fluid, expressive ocean.
This piece speaks to the beauty of allowing rather than forcing, and to the quiet intelligence that can arise when we trust the process. It invites the viewer to slow down, feel into the movement, and perhaps recognize something within themselves.
