In this work, I sought to capture the timeless spirit of a city that fascinates me. Using the finesse of giclée print, I illustrate a striking contrast between the dynamism of the bright yellow vehicle and the surrounding monochrome palette. This composition, rooted in figurative realism, aspires to evoke nostalgia, while instilling renewed energy and a captivating sense of movement. It will bring a touch of character and escape to any space.
« If you could say it in words, there would be no reason to paint it. - E. Hopper »
Van Quickenborne explores time. His unique technique of juxtaposing oil and acrylic took him several years of research. His creative process begins with preparatory drawings followed by composition work. Each painting takes about 2 months of work.
Exhibiting since 1980, his reputation extends beyond borders: France, Germany, Japan, Luxembourg, Spain, USA, United Arab Emirates, Belgium, Poland, etc.
A member of the Taylor Foundation, he has received numerous awards and is featured in many private collections, at the Stadt Bühl Museum (Baden-Baden, Germany) and art books.
He is close to the surrealists, the visionaries, the steampunk, without really belonging to these movements. It is a painting rooted in its time while remaining on the margins.
"Such Art, served by a learned profession, by an intelligence that is both cruel and tender, will not leave indifferent lovers of high-end imaginary painting." L'Écho – Brussels.
