About this artwork
My new work is a meditation on the wonders of the natural world which at the moment looks like it will be forever altered for our children and their children.
I am interested in exploring the components of the visual experience. Why and how certain visual combinations affect us in deeply profound ways. My current work has been most influenced by the work of the Abstract Expressionist painters of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s, specifically the “monumental”,… large scale paintings of this genre.
In all my work, a sense of the physical is very important. Brush in paint, paint on canvas. While I have created representational works in the past, today I am focused on the challenge of constructing tactile emotionally charged paintings. My goal is to create joyful works exploding with energy, without using any representational symbols or words.
