THE RETAILER: FADING MEMORIES: There is no fixed place for memories in the brain. With each retrieval, they are reconstructed and updated. This is how they change. What is not frequently recalled fades. What is recalled becomes crumpled, combined with other events, dreams, or things seen in the media. We think our memories are reality. But they are not. They are emotionally filtered, multisensory, dynamic reconstructions from what we have seen, heard,…
and smelled. Can a photograph and a text stabilize memories? Fading Memories is a series of hand-colored black and white photographs that the artist took around the world. Sketchy texts are incorporated into the works. Thus, the pieces exist at the intersection of photography, painting, and literature. To symbolize the theme of fading memories, the works have been crumpled. Best effect: hung in groups. in a 23.5x28.5 cm object frame.

Thomas Ruhl works as a painter and photographer with a background in graphic design, photography, and journalism. He masterfully combines black-and-white photography with hand-colored elements, often complemented by literary texts, thereby bringing historical coloring techniques back into contemporary art. His style moves at the intersection of photography, painting, and literature, always aesthetic and critical at the same time. His works tell moving stories of people worldwide and invite the viewer to empathy, humanity, and sensitive reflection. Ruhl has received numerous international awards for his work. His pieces have been presented in group and solo exhibitions and at art fairs. After studying art, financial difficulties initially drove him into advertising. This was followed by the founding of the publishing house Port-Culinaire, which established itself at the top end of the market with a magazine and culinary books. Now he devotes himself exclusively to art.
