About this artwork
"Mountain Flame" (2025) is a vibrant geometric abstraction of a natural landscape. Rendered in my signature polygonal cubism, the painting captures the dynamic relationship between mountain peaks and dense forest through interlocking angular facets of color.
Warm tones of red, yellow, and green dominate the upper half, suggesting a sunlit forest canopy ablaze with vitality. In contrast, cooler blues and aqua tones at the base evoke rivers, valleys,… or misted foothills. The mountainous contours emerge not through outlines, but through the accumulation of fragmented planes—shaped by light, shadow, and form.
My hand-painted polygons give the landscape a crystalline, almost prismatic feel, transforming the natural world into a faceted, emotional terrain. The painting balances structure and spontaneity, echoing both the solidity of earth and the ephemeral quality of light and air in untouched wilderness.
Born into a Vietnamese artistic lineage, Thuy Nguyen engages with mono prints, polygonal paintings, and ceramics. Utilizing an abstract approach, she combines intense pigmentation with intricate geometric forms, traversing both the traditional canvas and the digital realm to stage her exploration. Her work, a kaleidoscopic fusion of shapes and colors, pulses with the complexities of human identity and the quest for harmony with the natural world. Through her polygonal portraits, she reveals a riveting chronicle of emotions, reflecting the enduring spirit encapsulated in our continually evolving selves.
