About this artwork
The research behind this painting was the question of how to convey sensations that might emerge from a portrait, for example, but through matter, through color. A destructuring, a deconstruction by translating the sensation into colors and materials.
Tobia Giorla, trained in theater and writing, also expresses himself through oil painting, acrylics, pastels, and printmaking, combining dance and theater. He is not content with a single style or technique, instead playing with mediums to explore multidisciplinarity in the arts. Seeking to convey sensations through material and composition, Giorla paints not horror, but the scream (Francis Bacon)—a percussive cry of material and emotion that resonates in each of his works.
After graduating from high school, he moved to Paris at the age of 18 and enrolled at the Cours Florent. In 2019, he won the Best Actor award at the TalentScreen Awards in Lausanne. In 2022, he left Paris to attend the Manufacture - Haute école des arts de la scène in Lausanne.
Alongside his theatrical career, he published his first book, Obsessions, in 2022 with Editions Baudelaire.
