About this artwork
Detail of the sculptural ensemble of the Les Girondins fountain in Bordeaux representing the quarry cherub. Several statues complete the set: the French Rooster, the Tribune, the Eloquence and the History turned towards the river constitute the dedication of this monument to the girondinos deputies; on the other hand, looking towards the city, three statues of women representing the city of Bordeaux and the Garonne and Dordogne rivers.
In the pond… that overlooks the Grand Theater we find the "Triumph of the Republic", with statues representing work and security symbolized by the blacksmith and the lion.
In the second pond is the “Triumph of Concord” that protects the Fraternity and Abundance, source of the prosperity of Commerce and Industry, symbolized by three boys on the left while the Arts are represented by the three girls of the right. In this pond, Gustave Debrie's horses drive Happiness expressed by a dolphin in a cherub.
His work shows a mixture of realistic and impressionist styles, both awakening a great interest in the current art market. Realism attracts collectors who appreciate precise technique and detailed representation, as seen in his works of urban landscapes and still lifes. The impressionistic elements, evident in his depictions of people in environments atmospheric, they are very popular with audiences interested in emotional and expressive techniques.
