About this artwork
As an artist, I have built a body of surrealist works. Yet I have also done a variety of abstract and pop art pieces. Sometimes, artists are typecast as only doing one genre. But if you knew about the works of Rene Magritte, who is my painting hero, you would see that he also pursued several other styles, using pointillism, impressionism and abstract expressionism just to name a few. This painting came about as a result of another pop art piece I…
created called, "Food Face". With that one, I had a banana taking the place of a mouth (it was smiling!) I enjoyed painting the banana so much that I decided to create another painting featuring just the banana. It's on a rather large canvas (30" x 48") and in real life, is quite attention-getting. I have decided that I am going to pursue some other fruits, done in this same style - an apple, an orange, a lemon and a lime for starters. Tom Blood is an award-winning American artist whose paintings have been exhibited in the United States. Inspired by surrealism, especially by the works of René Magritte, many of his paintings have featured a man in a bowler hat, which is part of his on-going homage to the Belgian master.
