About this artwork
There’s a specific kind of magic in the woods right after a rain—that moment when the air is still heavy, but the sun starts to pierce through the canopy. 🌲✨
For this piece, I really wanted to push the wet-on-wet technique to get that soft, ethereal glow around the sunburst. The challenge was maintaining the structure of the central tree while letting the light "eat away" at the edges of the branches.
I’m particularly happy with how the foreground… branches turned out—using those bold, dark strokes to create a frame that pulls the eye right into the misty center. And of course, those muddy path reflections! 💧 It’s all about finding that balance between the "controlled" and the "accidental."
Tomas Bajorunas, a self-taught painter guided by his father's influence, masterfully works with watercolors. He employs gentle, subtle impressionism to create evocative landscapes, embracing watercolor’s inherent logic and delicate unpredictability. His brushwork invites viewers into a realm of profound beauty and contemplation, where he conveys awe and wonder for the ever-unfolding mysteries of nature and creativity.
