About this artwork
This piece circulated during a period when gestures were seeking their maximum expression. The outpouring of energy that a specific expressive moment entails could not be balanced with the visual quality of its final result. This quest represented the essential motive of these works being created at that time. The emotion, the vehemence, the accelerated movement on a still canvas represent my struggle to achieve maximum expression. In 2011, this… was my struggle with material means.
Toni Riera, painter, draftsman, and printmaker, radiates an artistic experience inspired by Informalism and Expressionist passion. His work in oil on canvas, wood, or paper embodies technique and emotion in an extraordinary balance. His pieces present a dystopian yet honest vision of the world, while reflecting an intense dialogue between lived experience and the act of painting, evoking instantaneous emotions within carefully crafted material circumstances. He explores the act of painting as a poetic experience.
