About this artwork
The large-format work "Moved by the Sea" bears witness to the elemental force of water and transports the viewer directly to and in the sea. He can feel the powerful energy of the water, the ups and downs of the waves. There is no brushstroke to be found in this work. Here the artist uses her special technique of her water pictures: numerous layers of liquefied paint applied with a spatula over a longer period of time result in an overall picture… that is convincing both in terms of depth and movement. The eye of the beholder will always discover new movement, new play of colors and different perspectives in the abstract elements of the work. A picture full of positive energy that never gets boring!
« Water and cloud landscapes, concrete, and yet, abstract. Places of the longing. »
Ulrike Schmelter is an artist living in Berlin and on the Spanish Mediterranean coast, whose works are exhibited throughout Europe. Inspired by Romantic painting and its awareness of the uniqueness of nature, the artist intensely observes water, the sea, and nature. She visualizes her sensations in her expressive seascapes, abstract water paintings, and landscapes characterized by water—always without people. Schmelter's compositions depict the beauty of our earth and its landscapes, elevating water and the sea to the center of all existence, capturing moods and a "fascination with the moment." With her works, the artist sensitizes the viewer, reminding them of the fragility of the sea as an ecological system and water as a precious resource. Her primary media are acrylic on canvas.
