About this artwork
I observed the sandpipers from the family of sandpipers on the shores of the Danish Easter Island of Aeroe one autumn evening and took photographs of them. This picture was created in the studio in the spring of the following year. I applied the oil paint in a pasty layer with a palette knife to make the graceful movement of the birds and the wind stirring up the spray tangible. I captured the play of light on the water in an impressionistic way.…
The picture brings energy and the power of nature into a room. The painting surface consists of a coffee sack that is pre-glued and triple-primed and stretched onto a stretcher frame. The coarse structure of the jute is ideal for pasty painting and for my expressive painting style. My signature is on the front.
