About this artwork
In this painting, I sought to capture the serene and tumultuous spirit of nature. Using oil paints, I merged abstract strokes with impressionistic flair to evoke the vibrant, flowing river and the stoic tree beside it. This piece mirrors the dynamic balance between growth and stillness, casting a peaceful yet invigorating aura that enriches any space with its timeless presence and emotional depth.
I'm Vasily Kulchenko, a self-taught artist based in Perth, Western Australia. My work is rooted in Impressionism, with a strong focus on landscapes, though I also enjoy experimenting with abstract forms.
I've been painting since childhood, and over the years, my style has evolved into a blend of classic Impressionist techniques with a touch of modern vibrancy. I primarily work with oil on canvas and wood panels, using varied underpainting methods and thick, textured strokes to capture the shifting moods of nature.
Currently, I'm inspired by the stunning landscapes of Western Australia — from bright, open beaches to the deep blues of the Indian Ocean. My aim is to express not only what I see, but what I feel — translating light, movement, and emotion into color.
