About this artwork
My works are usually dominated by the tones of earth and sea – whites, greys, browns, blacks – colors that calm, but carry immense power 🌪️
There are places that take over your entire inner world, even if you are thousands miles away. Reynisfjara is one of them. A black sand shore where the Atlantic waves crash against basalt cliffs, and the wind tears through your thoughts until all that’s left is your breath and the salty air filling your lungs… 🌬️
I created this piece as an attempt to hold on to that moment – not its image, but its feeling. The texture here becomes the rhythm of the waves, the flashes of light – openings in the fog, and every fragment of the surface – a gust of wind, both chilling and reviving at the same time ⏳
Vestina Gustys is a sculptor and visual artist with a background in marine engineering, transforming raw materials into textured, three-dimensional works. She masterfully sculpts light and shadow into surfaces using plaster, paint, polystyrene bubbles, linen, and jute, embracing a minimal yet profoundly detailed style. Her artworks evoke the emotional resonance of the sea and industry, grounding the viewer in spaces that offer silence, connection, and sanctuary.
