About this artwork
Shopping centers, or "malls," as they are known in America, have always fascinated me. As temples of consumption, urban beings gather their desires and frustrations in these spaces. Many families only have access to these "sanctuaries" because the city lacks the nature that fulfills the spirit, and culture is expensive for many. In this work, I have fused Expressionism and Fauvism, capturing a vibrant and dynamic shopping center that reflects the… frenetic activity and color of modern urban life. I used oil paint to capture the intensity and emotion of a public space, where each brushstroke expresses a different feeling or interaction. The work is intended to invite reflection on consumption and social interaction in urban environments, adding a touch of energy and color to any home.
Víctor Collcardenas, a painter with a rich and varied background, employs a striking blend of media to express his art. His eclectic technique draws on German Expressionism, Van Gogh, and Matisse, and focuses particularly on urban themes and anonymous people. Collcardenas manages to convey emotions with a depth that invites critical reflection, imbuing life with transcendence and sharpening the viewer's sensitivity. Born in Lima, Peru, his art bears a tropical influence. He pursued his artistic training at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and later at the Central University of Barcelona, Spain.
