About this artwork
Inspired somewhat by Bukowski's poem,
Painting this wasn't an exercise in aesthetics, but in survival. This piece is my window, one that doesn't look outwards, but towards the noise inside me, and the frame that divides it is the only thing that keeps the pieces in place so they don't completely fall apart.
This work is my confession that some things don't heal, they only transform into paint. It's a reminder that, even if the pain is chronic,… the act of expressing it allows me, at least for a moment, to be the master of my own chaos.
Víctor Portillo is a self-taught painter specializing in oil paint, with exhibition experience in local galleries and fairs. He works with a mix of materials, applying layers of concealment and revelation, combining realism with brushstrokes that distort and cover his spectral figures. His works integrate deliberate imperfections, jagged edges, and symbols into compositions that invite contemplation. Through his paintings, he seeks to convey the fragility of identity, silence, and the mystery of time, generating a profound sense of introspection and emotional refuge.
