About this artwork
In the center is the silhouette of a woman, to one side a male face, and above, a headless torso floats as if suspended in memory. All of this is held against a background of leaves with phrases and pen drawings, as if they were the remains of a thought expanded in layers. The canvas is not intact: I've cut it, I've opened it, because I want it to breathe, to let out what is normally hidden. Painting, for me, is both image and wound: a space where… figures and words coexist with the emptiness that runs through them.
Víctor Portillo is a self-taught painter specializing in oil paint, with exhibition experience in local galleries and fairs. He works with a mix of materials, applying layers of concealment and revelation, combining realism with brushstrokes that distort and cover his spectral figures. His works integrate deliberate imperfections, jagged edges, and symbols into compositions that invite contemplation. Through his paintings, he seeks to convey the fragility of identity, silence, and the mystery of time, generating a profound sense of introspection and emotional refuge.
