About this artwork
In "RITA", a bright pink figure stands on the canvas. Winking with one eye and a heart in the other, she symbolizes love and acceptance. With bright red spiral cheeks, she stands there, joyous, almost euphoric. There is something mysterious about this cacophony of colours, maybe an open question ... Who is her lover ?
I explore identity through portraits of a primitive humanity. Painting with raw brushstrokes and oftentimes with my fingers, every detail is meant to blur the boundaries between dreams and reality: totemic faces, outrageous features, esoteric symbols and excessive colors. Creatures of fragile beauty and despair, the faces depicted in my work are often altered by chromatic wounds while their soft gaze guides me to an abyss of their own. It is through this primitive approach that I insist on the importance of following the impulse of painting by holding the very elements of meaning which ignite the creative spark in suspension. I aim to connect with the raw and the unrefined whose very condition of desirability resides too often in some form of distance or difference. My work features natural, unprocessed, almost organic material. Working with formal essentials allows me to engage the emotional perception at the deepest level and establish the fundamentals of my research.
