This piece showcases a vibrant interplay of flat color fields and irregular geometric shapes, evoking a sense of movement and structure at once. The canvas is divided into multiple sections, each with distinct color blocks — including bright red, turquoise, orange, yellow, lime green, lavender, black, and beige — that overlap and interact in a collage-like manner.
The composition feels modular yet spontaneous, as if each shape is carefully placed… but still retains a feeling of improvisation. The sharp lines contrast with softer arcs and curves, creating a visual rhythm that leads the eye throughout the piece. Vertical and horizontal alignments break across the midline, making the lower and upper halves feel like related but independent "chapters" in a visual narrative.
Despite the abstract nature, the overall effect is playful, architectural, and highly contemporary, reminiscent of mid-century modern design fused with street-art-like color intensity.
Vita Banko is a contemporary abstract artist working across painting, collage, and mixed media. She graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts and in 2011 founded TypeandStuff, a platform that marked the beginning of her independent, research-driven artistic practice. She lives and works between Vilnius, Berlin, and Madrid.
Her work investigates the relationship between form, color, and material, exploring abstraction as a visual language. Working on canvas and wood, she constructs compositions that balance intuition with structural rigor, often incorporating experimental mixed-media techniques. Collage and layering allow her to examine texture, spatial tension, and the dialogue between chance and control.
Through her practice, Vita Banko engages with both the visual and conceptual potential of materials, inviting viewers to reflect on perception, structure, and the boundaries between design and pure abstraction.
