About this artwork
This work is built around reflection as a structural element rather than a motif. The image unfolds through a vertical axis of light, where forms dissolve and reassemble in the surface of water.
I was interested in the point where landscape loses its solidity and becomes a field of shifting relations—between color, depth, and gesture. The warm lower register contrasts with a cooler, diffused space above, creating a quiet tension that holds the composition… together.
Part of an ongoing exploration of drift and perceptual instability within natural forms.
Vitalii Protasov is a self-taught painter, originally a conductor, who primarily uses watercolor, acrylics, and inks on various surfaces. He employs imaginative, spontaneous techniques to capture the fleeting atmosphere and subtlety of the Vienna Woods and its natural surroundings. His works embody delicacy and transparency, evoking a serene sense of calm and encouraging viewers to find stillness and presence.
