About this artwork
In this watercolor painting, I captured the vibrant atmosphere of a tranquil river valley. The village is called Olargues, in Languedoc, France. With delicate pencil lines and flowing color gradients, I wanted to capture the subtle impression of how light and nature merge. It brings the gentle peace and poetic atmosphere of the place into your home, filling any room with lightness and a touch of longing for peaceful moments.
Volker Koy, born in Breslau, fled with his mother and siblings and stayed in Hamburg, where he grew up.
Years of travel to the Middle East and India, late 1950s.
From 1968 onwards, he moved to Paris. There he worked as a lithographer and freelance artist.
1974 Birth of first son, 1976 Move to Munich.
1976 Founding of a limited liability company - lithography partnership with colleagues
Volker Koy was an outstanding painter, trained in "plein air" painting under Rolf Böhlig in Hamburg. He preferred to work with oil and watercolor paints.
His technique is rooted in contemporary Impressionism, always created directly from the subject – spontaneous, balanced, full of light and harmony. His landscapes convey a deep connection to nature and invite the viewer to experience meditative calm, equilibrium, and immediate connection through the simplicity and intensity of the moment.
