Sculptures from the series “City Bodies & Body Cities” (catalog) were created from approximately 2000 to 2016.
The urban landscape is characterized by a pronounced architectural urbanity.
In the Body Cities project, the corporeal, sometimes even the human, is emphasized.
Ultimately, every urban space is a horizontal cross-section through an imagined, conceptual building. Here… too, architecture is of paramount importance!
“Volker W. Hamann’s ‘Body City’ presents a dynamic, abstracted figure carved from light oak. The composition depicts a human form in powerful motion, seemingly balanced between two arched supports. The wood’s surface is marked by distinct carving marks, creating a vibrant texture and highlighting the craftsmanship. Geometric forms define the figure’s limbs, while the natural grain of the wood remains visible.”
Volker W. Hamann is a painter, photographer and sculptor with an extensive artistic background. He experiments with versatile techniques and prefers styles that fuse the classical with the modern to explore complex concepts. His works evoke deep emotions and encourage reflection on the human experience.
