About this artwork
At the end of a year-long pilgrimage in 2024 following the steps of JMW Turner in 1824 all along the Moselle river, Wayne Sleeth arrived at Koblenz in Germany. Across the water, the Napoleonic fortress of Ehrenbreitstein, painted many times by Turner, straddling the confluence of these two great rivers : the Moselle and the Rhine.
With an impressionist touch, in the late light of an autumn day, the colours surprise. The choppy mixed waters even create… the impression of a coastal scene, the fortress hillside like a coastal cliff.
Painted in rich oils on canvas.
This is one of over 400 pieces of artwork created to date of the Moselle regions ( spanning 3 countries - France, Luxembourg and Germany ), almost half of which feature in Sleeth's artbook 'Mosel.le' published by CoolLibri in 2025.
« Primarily, l'm working according to my 'synaesthetics' of places lived, frequented or visited fleetingly. Travel is a prime mover for me, followed by intense work in the studio in rural France. »
Wayne Sleeth is a well-travelled, France-based artist whose works have been exhibited across Europe and collected across 4 continents. With water as a prominent motif and influences from Monet, he creates tranquil landscapes that carry luminosity, reflection and a touch of mystery. Despite an increasing popularity and 'cote' ( values doubled in 7 years ), prices here in 2024 are frozen ! Make the most of this moment, these are also investment pieces. And remember that price offers can also be made.
