About this artwork
This watercolor was created during the early days of Covid when everything was so uncertain. Emerging from a period of emotional strain this painting records an internal state—how fear, grief, and helplessness moved through my body over time.
The fluidity of watercolor became essential to the process. Pigment spreads, bleeds, and resists control, echoing the way information and emotion accumulated without pause. Soft washes of green and blue suggest… breath and vulnerability, while eruptions of yellow and orange mark moments of alarm and overwhelm. Forms dissolve and overlap, reflecting the collapse of boundaries between private life and global crisis.
This piece functions as an emotional document rather than a narrative image—a quiet holding of tension, grief, and endurance during a moment when the world felt simultaneously distant and unbearably close
Wendy Grace holds an Honours degree in Painting from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. An accomplished Australian artist renowned for her vibrant abstract compositions, command of colour and instinctive grasp of spatial relationships. Her artworks are deeply influenced by nature and urban dynamics, as she seeks to push the boundaries of her work to find new ways to convey meaning and emotion. She says of Abstract painting that, “she is able to use everyday experiences and encounters with people and the environment in her work, to create a space to explore pathways to the imaginary,” offering the viewer a dynamic interplay of colour and pattern.
