About this artwork
A triptych — three canvases that can be displayed together or separately, in any order and at any distance. The format itself is part of the meaning: fragmented, unstable, refusing to resolve into a single narrative. Three bound figures. Numbers accumulating around them like a bureaucracy of suffering. Kubaty painted this in 2024, using lacquer and pastel on canvas — a combination that gives the surface an uneasy tension between softness and glare.… Dehumanization, the work suggests, is always counted. Always documented. Always watched.
Wojciech Kubaty is a Polish painter whose work sits at the intersection of expressive painting and theatrical imagination. Trained in theater studies at the Jagiellonian University and scenography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, he approaches every canvas as a stage — populated by fragile, restless figures caught in the absurdity of the human condition. His signature technique — lacquer on canvas or synthetic board — produces an intensity of color and surface rarely seen in contemporary painting. The lines are crooked, broken, deliberately unresolved. The humor is dark. The unease is real. Working at large and monumental scale, Kubaty’s paintings demand physical presence. They are not decoration — they are events. Collected internationally and exhibited in Poland, his work speaks to anyone who has ever felt the tragicomedy of being alive.
