About this artwork
A glimpse into human instinct, depicted through a union of man and woman portrayed as mindless and alien to one another. Their bodies, detached from all reason, dance a dance of sensuality, driven by primal urges. Hands grope, lips search, bodies merge in a maelstrom of desire.
Reason, a fleeting guest, loses its significance in this whirlwind. Emotions and sentimentality, the cornerstones of human relationships, are reduced to their rawest form.… It is a symbiotic union, a merging of souls, that manifests itself in physical union.
The soul, inexplicable and irrational, dominates. It is of a higher rank, unaffected by the will. Yet it needs the garment of bodies to achieve its complete merging. The bodies become instruments of the soul, which celebrates its union in a dance of ecstasy.

Wolfgang Müller is a self-taught painter from Northern Germany who works primarily with oil paints on canvas and also has experience as an art cabinetmaker. With his meditative and visionary approach, he is a prominent representative of contemporary Surrealism, whose works captivate with fantastical details and a world in constant transformation. His paintings invite deep reflection and challenge the viewer to discover hidden truths and emotions beyond the everyday.
