About this artwork
"Zippered Landscape I" was the first canvas with zipper and the second canvas face that Harkrader dissected, giving the assembly it's 3rd-Dimension. An Oil on Canvas mounted across 2x4 redwood, sturdy stretcher construction. Harkrader then, using a utility knife, made a one vertical cut into the raw canvas and mounted a heavy duty zipper into the opening. Behind the canvas, another form of construction was made for a home for the mirror to live.…
The 3-D opening reflected that which was in it's proximity or distant environment. The cavity mirror, like a mirror on the wall has history and provenance to it's place of occupation and all that may pass in front of it: light or dark, life or object, inside and outside. This 3-D canvas was created during the period that Harkrader was attending the historic Mountain Lake Symposium and Workshop, hosted at the Mountain Lake Hotel in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
