About this artwork
"Evening" is a sophisticated result of Yaryna Shumska’s experimental journey with ink and textural layering. Part of a dedicated series exploring the soul of the forest, this artwork captures the skeletal beauty and silent energy of trees. It marks a transition where the fluid, spontaneous nature of drawing with ink meets the structural depth of abstract painting.
The composition is built on a refined palette of misty greys, ethereal whites, and… sudden flashes of luminous yellow. This combination creates a "living texture" that mimics the play of light through a dense canopy. Shumska’s focus is not on a literal depiction of nature, but on the "felt presence" of the forest—its rhythm, its shadows, and its enduring resilience.
With its organic movements and subtle tones, this piece brings a refreshing, meditative atmosphere to any space. It is a perfect choice for collectors who appreciate art that bridges the gap between traditional nature study and modern gestural abstraction.

« I work with painting, performance art, installation, and dance. I'm interested in the research of spaces with human presence and looking for situations that reveal dual reality and ambiguity. »
Yaryna Shumska is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges the gap between performance and abstract painting, creating what she calls an "archive of action."
She is a prize-winning Ukrainian artist whose works have been widely exhibited on a national level, as well as in Poland, France, Spain and the United States. Her artistic geography is truly global, ranging from the Venice International Performance Art Week and Tokyo to Bangkok, Barcelona, and the Arctic Action in Svalbard. A significant place in her practice is occupied by abstract painting from the 2008–2020 period, which served as a foundation for exploring the canvas as a space for "inhabiting" action. In these works, color and texture function not merely as visual elements, but as mediums for internal rhythm and energy. These canvases laid the groundwork for her current practice, where painting is transformed into a direct imprint of physical presence.
