About this artwork
A featured piece from Yaryna Shumska’s 2018 solo exhibition "Interaction" at the Lviv National Museum, this artwork is a masterclass in visual balance. Through a rhythmic arrangement of lines, light, and ethereal spots, Shumska explores the state of "equilibrium"—a moment where movement and stillness coexist.
The painting is open to the viewer's interpretation: some may find the tranquility of a waterside and the silhouette of boats, while others… may see the pure "calligraphy of a gesture." The palette of radiant yellow, deep black, steady grey, and dark green creates a sophisticated atmosphere that is both grounding and energetic.
With its prestigious museum history and versatile imagery, this piece serves as a profound focal point, bringing a sense of intellectual harmony and professional elegance to any modern space.

« I work with painting, performance art, installation, and dance. I'm interested in the research of spaces with human presence and looking for situations that reveal dual reality and ambiguity. »
Yaryna Shumska is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges the gap between performance and abstract painting, creating what she calls an "archive of action."
She is a prize-winning Ukrainian artist whose works have been widely exhibited on a national level, as well as in Poland, France, Spain and the United States. Her artistic geography is truly global, ranging from the Venice International Performance Art Week and Tokyo to Bangkok, Barcelona, and the Arctic Action in Svalbard. A significant place in her practice is occupied by abstract painting from the 2008–2020 period, which served as a foundation for exploring the canvas as a space for "inhabiting" action. In these works, color and texture function not merely as visual elements, but as mediums for internal rhythm and energy. These canvases laid the groundwork for her current practice, where painting is transformed into a direct imprint of physical presence.
