About this artwork
"Red Vertical" is a bold exploration of energy and structural balance. In this abstract work, Yaryna Shumska uses the vertical axis as a symbol of growth, resilience, and the upward striving of the human spirit. The dominant red tone is not just a color, but a powerful pulse—a manifestation of life force and creative passion that commands the viewer’s attention.
The painting's strength lies in its minimalist focus. By emphasizing the vertical movement,… Shumska creates a sense of height and expansion, making the artwork feel as though it is breathing beyond the limits of the canvas. The deliberate textures and subtle shifts in the background provide a sophisticated depth, allowing the red core to vibrate with intensity.
This piece is a perfect statement for an ambitious modern interior. It brings a dynamic, rhythmic energy to any room, serving as a vibrant reminder of the power and direction we find within our own inner landscapes.

« I work with painting, performance art, installation, and dance. I'm interested in the research of spaces with human presence and looking for situations that reveal dual reality and ambiguity. »
Yaryna Shumska is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges the gap between performance and abstract painting, creating what she calls an "archive of action."
She is a prize-winning Ukrainian artist whose works have been widely exhibited on a national level, as well as in Poland, France, Spain and the United States. Her artistic geography is truly global, ranging from the Venice International Performance Art Week and Tokyo to Bangkok, Barcelona, and the Arctic Action in Svalbard. A significant place in her practice is occupied by abstract painting from the 2008–2020 period, which served as a foundation for exploring the canvas as a space for "inhabiting" action. In these works, color and texture function not merely as visual elements, but as mediums for internal rhythm and energy. These canvases laid the groundwork for her current practice, where painting is transformed into a direct imprint of physical presence.
