About this artwork
"Shadow of the Sun II" is a vibrant continuation of Yaryna Shumska’s 2019 series exploring the intense energy of midsummer. This work was a featured piece in the artist’s solo exhibition at the Garry Bowman Gallery (Lviv, Ukraine), marking it as a significant part of her professional trajectory.
The painting thrives on the sophisticated contrast between fiery orange and deep, cool blue, creating a visual harmony that feels both impressive and electric.… Through bold, gestural layers, Shumska captures the essence of shimmering heat and sun-drenched atmosphere.
As the second part of a dynamic diptych, this artwork offers a perfect balance of rhythm and color. Its gallery-proven history and radiant energy make it an exceptional acquisition for any contemporary collection, bringing the warmth and vitality of a summer afternoon into a modern space.

« I work with painting, performance art, installation, and dance. I'm interested in the research of spaces with human presence and looking for situations that reveal dual reality and ambiguity. »
Yaryna Shumska is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges the gap between performance and abstract painting, creating what she calls an "archive of action."
She is a prize-winning Ukrainian artist whose works have been widely exhibited on a national level, as well as in Poland, France, Spain and the United States. Her artistic geography is truly global, ranging from the Venice International Performance Art Week and Tokyo to Bangkok, Barcelona, and the Arctic Action in Svalbard. A significant place in her practice is occupied by abstract painting from the 2008–2020 period, which served as a foundation for exploring the canvas as a space for "inhabiting" action. In these works, color and texture function not merely as visual elements, but as mediums for internal rhythm and energy. These canvases laid the groundwork for her current practice, where painting is transformed into a direct imprint of physical presence.
